It's been a very busy year for me as a second year University student. 5 classes and co-op (the paperwork and assignments before applying/interviews which start in January) tend to take up a lot of time.

Now that exams are done, and I'm just waiting for marks to come in I have time to work on person projects again. I have a few things in mind but the first thing I started working on again was Box.

Box is just a simple concept engine that focuses around using (currently) two types of boxes to reach an exit and collect coins.
You can check it out Here.

I have a few ideas for a simple turn based multiplayer game (real time is a little out of my league for the time being) but it will take a lot of work and I still have to do Christmas shopping! (Planning to do that tomorrow).

Additionally I've been playing some fun games in the little spare time I had. Skyrim, Portal 2, Civ 5, and Unepic. One of these days I need to add a video section to the website, and fix the terrible navigation.

SGC is still up and running, although not exactly terribly useful. You're better off contacting me on twitter @ShrikeGames.

A quick update in order here. I've been working on learning a lot more serverside programming and it's been working out rather well.

Shrike Games Chat is a Flash based chat room that uses MySQL and PHP (I know, sounds silly right). It is still a work in progress but already works rather well with a decent amount of features. It's not the standard plain text chat. It is stylized allowing all users to have their own avatar and colour. Messages are shown in nice looking text bubbles rather than plain text. The message bubbles change in size according to the text content, automatically links urls (as well as colours based on the user's chosen colour) and overall looks nicer than just a text chat. Features include changing your avatar by simply typing a command with the url you want to change it to, admins can ban for any length of time with a given reason and there is a fully working "who is online" list.

I was working on redoing my Pod Racer engine (and I did, it's 1000 times better) but at this point I broke a couple things that need to be fixed before it's put up on the site. Not sure when I will get around to it.

I am currently reworking my method of submitting news/games to the site (and testing by making this update). Now that I am more comfortable with serverside workings and making sure it's semi-safe including parsing sent data and encrypting passwords I am thinking of changing the site to be based around a highscore system. Any game would have a highscore system that is stored on the server and standing would be shown on the site. We'll see how it goes.

University is starting again soon, so time will become less abundant however I'll also learn plenty to add on.
